WHAT MAKES YOU LOVE NORTHERN COLORADO VOLLEYBALL? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE UNC?
I chose UNC partly because of the campus and partly because the graduate school was a great fit for me, but mostly because of the people I wanted to surround myself with. Not only do I enjoy all the girls as teammates, but I would choose to be friends with each of them off the court, which really says something about a group of 14 young women. I also feel extremely cared for by all of the coaches and athletics staff. Everyone at UNC wants the best for everyone else, and will do whatever they can to help one another.
DO YOU LIKE ANIMALS, IF SO DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE?
I absolutely love animals. I would definitely consider myself a dog person, but I also think kittens are some of the cutest creatures ever to be seen. I’m also in love with lots of wild animals. Foxes are majestic and adorable. Giant jungle cats mystify me. I aspire to be a bear and hibernate through the winter. My favorite animal of all time, though, is a wolf.
IF YOU HAD A SUPERPOWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE? WHAT WOULD YOUR SUPERHERO NAME BE?
My superpower would either be invisibility or mind reading. Invisibility would be cool because I could sneak into any movie or concert I wanted to. Mind reading would be helpful as a middle blocker because I would know where the other team’s setter was going to set the ball, so I could get the block every time. I think my name would be Invisi-B.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING VOLLEYBALL MEMORY?
I’ve been hit in the face several times when I go up to block. It’s usually when the hitter hits the ball into the net and my face is just…there.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE VOLLEYBALL MEMORY?
I haven’t gotten to make many memories at UNC yet, but I had the opportunity to visit so many amazing places while playing for Creighton, as well as making the Sweet 16 and Elite 8
WHAT IS YOUR NICKNAME? HOW’D YOU GET IT?
My nickname is B… because my name starts with a B.
WHO ARE YOUR ROLE MODELS IN LIFE AND WHY?
OBVIOUSLY, MY PARENTS (DANIAL AND JESSICA) ARE TWO OF MY STRONGEST ROLE MODELS IN LIFE, BECAUSE THEY RAISED ME AND MOLDED ME INTO THE PERSON I AM TODAY. NEARLY EVERYTHING I’VE LEARNED IN LIFE, I’VE LEARNED FROM MY PARENTS. MY AUNT AND UNCLE (ALICIA AND CHAD) ARE ALSO IMPORTANT ROLE MODELS OF MINE. ALICIA, MY MOM’S SISTER, IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS I DECIDED TO PURSUE MY EDUCATION AND CAREER IN PSYCHOLOGY AND COUNSELING. SHE IS A LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER AND A LICENSED DRUG AND ALCOHOL COUNSELOR, SO WE HAVE SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS DISCUSSING THE FIELDS OF COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGY. CHAD, HER HUSBAND, IS UNDOUBTEDLY MY GOOFIEST UNCLE, AND ONE OF THE HARDEST WORKING MEN I KNOW. HE REMINDS ME TO WORK HARD IN EVERYTHING I DO, BUT ALSO TO HAVE FUN AND ENJOY LIFE WHEN I’M NOT WORKING.
Who or what inspired you to play volleyball?
If I’m being honest, I don’t even remember how or why I started playing volleyball, but I assume it had something to do with my height. As the years went on, though, I remember being influenced by several different women. When I was in middle school, all I wanted to do was be as good a volleyball player as our high school varsity girls. Once I got to high school, I wanted nothing more than to follow in Jordan Larson’s footsteps, especially as a small-town Nebraska kid. Even though I didn’t get the chance to play for the University of Nebraska, I feel extremely lucky to have been given the chance to play collegiate volleyball for two teams (Creighton University and UNC)
IF YOU COULD HAVE A DINNER PARTY WITH ANYONE (PAST OR PRESENT), WHO ARE THREE PEOPLE YOU’D INVITE?
I would invite my grandma and her two parents. I never had much of a chance to get to know my great grandparents as a kid, so I would love the opportunity to get to know them and see how they interacted with one another. My grandma, who we lost about three years ago, loved her parents dearly. So I would definitely want to see the three of them together and enjoy all the love in the room.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If I could live anywhere, I either choose to live in the middle of nowhere or in a suburb somewhere in Europe. I would choose the middle of nowhere because I think it would be very calming and I would love to be able to look out the window every morning and see nature, most likely untouched by man. I would choose Europe because I’ve always wanted to visit, and I think it would be awesome to live in a quaint little neighborhood or apartment complex in Italy or England.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of volleyball in Greeley/Colorado?
I just moved to Colorado this summer (2018) and have already had the chance to go hiking for the first time. I really enjoyed myself and felt in my element when I was surrounded by nature. I also enjoy listening to music, napping, reading, eating, and watching movies
What major are you studying, why’d you choose it?
I chose to study psychology about halfway through my freshman year at Creighton after taking Intro to Psychology. I loved every second of it and declared my major as soon as I was allowed to. I graduated from Creighton in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and am currently working toward a career in counseling at UNC. Right now, I am in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program, and hope to study in the Counseling Psychology doctoral program at UNC once I finish my master’s.
